Childhood Spirit Defies Progeria

Appearances can be deceptive.Similarly, diseases can make the body look vulnerable but the determinacy of the soul relies on its spirit. Adalia Rose, a six year old girl, sets an example of such stalwartness.

Affected by a rare genetic disorder called Progeria, she looks older than her age.The diabolical aging has reduced her unlined face into a shallow wrinkled one. But her liveliness remains alive. She is promoting a fundraiser for the Progeria Research Foundation. In an effort to this, the Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-In in Austin, Texas is going to feature her favorite movie 'Grease' to raise money driving the philanthropists for a meaningful purpose.

Despite all pain Adalia has to endure, she finds everyday to be a special one in hope of making it better and more astir

Saviour of the Biological Wrath

A team led by William Fenical at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego has discovered a new chemical compound from an ocean microbe that has potential for the treatment of anthrax and even MRSA( methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus). The microorganism that produces the compound was first found in the sediments found near the shore of  Santa Barbara, Calif.

The compound has been named as anthracimycin and is capable of killing the anthrax bacteria. A strong contender of biological warfare, Anthrax, was first used by the Germans in the First World War to contaminate livestock and then used allegedly during Japanese occupation of China in 1932. 10,000 prisoners died as a result.

The discovery of anthracimycin from the ocean microbe has proved that the marine bacteria is genetically and chemically unique and that ocean provides vast scope for exploration of the unknown.

Healthy babyhood ensured:FDA

BPA or Bisphenol A is a ubiquitous chemical that made its entry into the commercial world early in 1957. It is a prevalent chemical used in water bottles, cans, baby bottles, formula milk and an array of food packaging and is quoted as unavoidable by many commercials.

Though the FDA have determined small amounts of BPA in liquid infant formula, powdered infant milk mix was found to have no detectable levels. But the proven benefit of good nutrition outweighs the health risk posed by BPA. Whereas according to some researchers if it is a problem then its better to avoid it.

This chemical is kind of a synthetic estrogen and poses threats ranging from obesity to breast cancer. With regard to this several baby bottle manufacturers have already banned its use and Sunoco, a major manufacturer of BPA, has stopped selling it to such industries.

Though it still remains in use for other market goods, babies are secure and meanwhile their parents complaisant on this act of FDA.
